Consilience

The boundaries between fields are in our minds, not in reality — all knowledge is one fabric.

We've built fields and institutions around portions of knowledge — academia separates the physicists from the psychologists. But reality has no such sections: the edges of every field touch or depend on others. We carved the boundaries; nature didn't.

Map & Territory

We see our representation of the world, not the world.

Reality is so vastly complex that we compress it in order to try and operate within it effectively. But doing so means we trim details, sometimes details that matter.
